BREAKING: Monsanto has been forced to withdraw radio advertising in South Africa that made unsubstantiated claims of the benefits of GM crops. Monsanto's radio ad claimed that GM crops “enable us to produce more food sustainably whilst using fewer resources; provide a healthier environment by saving on pesticides; decrease greenhouse gas emissions and increase crop yields substantially.” South African law governing advertising requires inputs from an independent and credible expert confirming the various studies that Monsanto based their claims on. The only support Monsanto was able to provide for these claims was a link back to their very own website. Monsanto has been forced to withdraw these ads. Looks like we need new advertising laws in the USA.
