234kg Dagga bust in Ladysmith to the value of R 230 000
Public Safety officers made a dagga bust while conducting a roadblock in Keate Street yesterday afternoon (Thursday).
Public Safety were assisted by Ladysmith Crime Intelligence & Protection Services, as well as Visible Policing and K9 officers. It was about 5.45pm when a bakkie approached the roadblock. The vehicle came to a stop and suddenly, to the officers’ surprise, three men jumped out and fled on foot. Public Safety officers gave chase and arrested a 37-year-old suspect in Alexandra Street.
A search of the bakkie turned up 26 bags of dagga. Police impounded the vehicle and the dagga was taken to the police station. The drugs weighed in at 234kg with a street value of about R230,000.
This is one of the biggest dagga busts made by Public Safety.
The suspect will appear in court today (Friday) and police are in the process of tracing the two men who got away.
