On the 6th of November 2013 13 officers appeared in the High Court of Cape Town facing 13 charges including murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, serious assault, theft, common assault and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
Sidwell Mkwambi a Rastafarian man from New Crossroads, Bellville was identified as a suspect days after the officers were shot upon by an unknown person. They brought him in for questioning where he died, in custody, a day later from blunt trauma. However they were acquitted of murder & kidnapping due to lack of “expert” witnesses.
