Two bags of dagga worth more than an estimated R150 000 was confiscated on the corner of Madiba and Lilian Ngoyi streets, the Tshwane metro said on Monday.
Spokesman senior superintendent, Isaac Mahamba said the bags of dagga weighed a total of 23kg.
According to Mahamba the officers were tipped off by a taxi driver who was waiting for passengers on Sunday.
“The driver alerted the Metro Police officers after seeing a suspicious looking man carrying two big black plastic bags.”
Mahamba said police approached the suspect in the taxi to search his goods.
“When the police were about to open the bags, the suspect fled the scene and left the bags in the taxi. The police gave chase with no success.
“They were however able to confiscate the bags of dagga, weighing 23 kg and estimated to be over R150 000.
