Video – My letter to Helen Zille… Good morning Miss Zille I've been noticing a lot of controversy surrounding cannabis. There is new studies proving that marijuana is harmless to humans. Now considering the basic human rights law which states "You may consume whatever you choose to, as long as it does no damage to you.". where does this leave cannabis? I've also read numerous articles proving that cannabis cures most cancers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cUC8tjoB_0) and treats over 700 other diseases/illnesses (http://weedbay.net/index.php/component/content/article/1974). Furthermore, the cannabis plant can be used to produce Bio-diesel. This should most definitely be looked into. Since this is a plant, it converts the same amount of carbon dioxide it releases into the air when burned as fuel to oxygen again. This literally eliminates one of the leading contributions to air pollution, which leads to global warming. If this reason lacks continuity, bio-diesel is a renewable fuel source! What concerns me the most regarding hemp is that it does not contain the psychoactive ingredient known as Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). This means that although hemp is from the same species as cannabis, it can't get you "high". Why in the world is this illegal? Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemp The South African Drugs & Drugs Trafficking Act of 1992 contains no scientific basis for its claims that cannabis is a dangerous and dependence producing substance. The law states that there is no medicinal value in the plant. This is blatantly wrong… By arresting cannabis cultivators, traders and users, South African law enforcement is in direct contravention of our basic Human Rights as enshrined in the Bill of Rights & the Constitution. There is widespread ignorance when it comes to the real benefits of the cannabis plant. This can be seen on both public and law enforcement levels. Widespread education and information initiatives are essential to dispel this ignorance. Re-Legalisation of cannabis would pave the way for the development of a Hemp industry in South Africa. Hemp (also the cannabis plant) can be used to create jobs in the agriculture, bio fuel, paper, textile & building industries. By doing this, South African industry can reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and pave the way for a more sustainable future. Please look into this and get back to me so that i can resolve this confusion.
