Concerning genetically modified ingredient labelling, Section 24.6 of the Consumer Protection Act and Regulation 7 thereunder are unclear as to what products have to be labelled. Clarification has been sought in August 2011 through the Consumer Goods Council. To date no response has been received. As per the rest of the industry Bokomo is awaiting the outcome of the enquiry before any composite ingredient products such as ProNutro will be labelled. Single ingredient products, where no confusion in terms of labelling exists, such as Bokomo Corn Flakes have already been labelled as containing GM Maize and these packs are already in production and should be on shelf or will be shortly. Legal compliance is a top priority and Bokomo will label all applicable products accordingly as soon as the necessary clarification and directive is received from DAFF.
